Luke Evans is the younger, and originally mortal, Vlad Tepes in this first trailer for his origin story, Dracula Untold. You won’t be surprised to see that there’s some shady business going on, dodgy dealings of a Faustian colour.
That seems to have been more inspired by Peter Jackson‘s The Lord of the Rings with its massive, CG-enhanced war scenes, than anything in the original Bram Stoker. You might at least consider it an original approach to the story of Dracula.
The story of a man sacrificing his soul for his people, and then those people rejecting him and making him into a monster is a potent one. This trailer offers no real indication of how well those themes will be tapped, seeming more intent on acting like the early Snow White and the Huntsman promos than anything else.
Dracula Untold will be released in October, a non-horror film about a horror icon for the Hallowe’en season.
